Climbing Nasturtium "Splitfire" (mix of bright colors).
A magnificent climbing screen for a gazebo! Flowers and seeds are edible!
Stems reach 3 m in length. Flowers 4–5 cm in diameter. Blooms profusely from late June until late autumn.
Nasturtium seeds germinate at a temperature not lower than +15°C. Does not tolerate transplanting well.
Grows best in the sun and in light shade, undemanding to soil. On rich soils, flowering is weak (foliage grows excessively).
Used for planting in planters, on balconies, and near fences.
Fresh green seeds are eaten and pickled (like capers). Flowers and leaves are used in food (in salads and for decorating sweet dishes). Leaves taste like watercress.
1.0 g = 7-9 seeds.
Agrotechnics.
Prefers soils of medium fertility; on rich soils, it increases green mass strongly and blooms little. Light-loving. Heals the earth from fungal diseases. Asters and sweet peas grow better after it.
Sowing. Before sowing, seeds are poured with hot water (+40+50°C) and left for a day. Grown through seedlings or by sowing in the ground at a distance of 25-30 cm (when the threat of frost has passed).
Seeds are sown in May directly into open ground, three seeds per hole. Seeding depth up to 2 cm. At a soil temperature of +20°C, shoots appear on the 14-20th day. Distance between plants 20-30 cm.
Watering: regular at the beginning of growth, and after flowering - only when the soil dries out strongly.
Feeding is carried out only before flowering with an interval of 7-10 days with a solution of complex mineral fertilizer.
Flowering: abundant from late June until autumn frosts.

* Nasturtium Jam.
Ingredients: nasturtium flowers and buds, water, and sugar in a 1:1:1 ratio by volume, 1 teaspoon of citric acid per liter of water.
1. Collect flowers and buds, pack tightly into an enamel pan, cover with the same amount of water, put on fire.
2. As soon as the mass boils, add 1 tsp of citric acid and, stirring, add sugar in small portions.
3. Boil the jam for 5 minutes, pour into jars, seal, and cool under a blanket without turning the jars over.
A very piquant jam!
